Locate the first unstable frame and compare it with the original footage. Note whether the change follows a head turn, an obstruction, a cut, or a switch between people. Test that short section with one change at a time; there is no single setting that reliably fixes every kind of flicker.

Decide what is actually flickering
“Flicker” can describe several different problems. The whole scene may pulse in brightness, the face may briefly disappear, its identity may change, or only the jaw boundary may tremble. These need different checks. Play the original alongside the result: if a brightness pulse is present in both, begin with the source recording rather than assuming the swap introduced it.
Our troubleshooting method is to mark the timestamp, watch the moment normally, and then move through nearby frames. Keep a brief note such as “jaw jumps after hand passes” instead of simply “looks bad.” That makes the next experiment specific.

These experiments are editorial suggestions. They do not establish the internal cause of a proprietary tool’s behavior, and some hosted tools will not expose the relevant settings.
Check selection before enhancement
If the wrong person is being altered, sharper output will not solve the assignment. FaceFusion’s documentation distinguishes reference-based selection from simpler selection modes and includes reference-frame controls. Those controls illustrate why “a face was found” is different from “the intended face was selected.”
In a hosted interface, look for a visible mapping between the person in the clip and the replacement photo. Review a moment after the people move, not only the opening frame. If the interface only lets you choose a left or right position, ask the provider how that choice behaves when people change places.

Treat hidden faces as a separate challenge
A hand, glasses frame, microphone, or hair can interrupt the visible face. FaceFusion documents occlusion and region masks: these are controls for deciding which areas participate in the blend. Their existence does not promise that every obstruction will be handled correctly, nor that another provider offers equivalent controls.
If your tool exposes a relevant setting, compare its effect on one problematic segment. If it does not, your practical options include another shot, a shorter edit, or a tool with more control. Do not run the entire video repeatedly without changing anything meaningful.
Review a change in context
After a test improves the marked frames, replay the surrounding shot at normal speed. An edit that looks tidy when paused can still draw attention in motion. Also inspect the audio and cut timing after splitting clips; fixing a face is not useful if the resulting edit feels broken.
Keep export frame rate consistent with the recording when preparing a YouTube upload, following its official encoding guidance. This preserves the intended timing but is not a repair for identity or mask instability already visible in the rendered frames.
Common questions
Will a different reference photo help?
It is worth a controlled test if the identity is weak or the photo obscures important facial features. Compare two clear photos with the same segment, using our photo guide. Do not assume a new photo can reveal parts of the video face hidden behind an object.
Is a soft face the same problem?
Not always. A consistently soft face and an alternating face call for different experiments. If softness is present throughout, start with the blur checklist.
