Find where the blur begins

Pick one frame where the face is reasonably still and another during movement. Compare the original video, the tool’s preview, and the exported file at a similar display size. Comparing a tiny preview with a full-screen export can make a normal size difference look like a processing failure.

The following is a diagnostic approach, not a claim that every tool uses the same model. Keep the original files, note the test settings, and change one thing at a time. If both the photo and the export settings change, you will not know which change helped.

Check the size of the face, not just the frame

A wide shot can contain a large video frame and a very small face. Cropping in makes that face bigger on screen but does not supply the detail that was missing in the original recording. Review the original face at approximately the size you intend viewers to see it.

Try another take with the person closer to the camera if possible. If the clip is fixed, consider using the shot at its original framing rather than enlarging it dramatically. This is an editorial tradeoff: a smaller convincing face can work better than a large distracting one.

Give the reference photo a fair test

Choose a reference in which the eyes and mouth are easy to distinguish. Avoid starting with a photo that has already been heavily smoothed or enlarged. Deepswap explicitly recommends clear frontal faces on its product page; this is input guidance, not a guarantee of the final video quality.

Separate blending from export quality

If the center of the face looks reasonably detailed but the surrounding boundary looks overly soft, inspect blending controls if your tool exposes them. FaceFusion, for example, documents separate controls for box-mask blur and padding. That demonstrates a distinction between softening a boundary and changing output resolution; it does not mean your browser tool has those settings.

Avoid treating maximum sharpening as a universal solution. In our suggested review process, assess whether sharpening makes edges or texture more distracting at normal playback speed. Return to the unmodified result if it does.

For YouTube delivery, its official encoding guidance recommends preserving the recorded frame rate and provides export codec and bitrate guidance. Follow the destination platform’s current requirements rather than repeatedly saving a heavily compressed copy.

Will paying for higher resolution solve the problem?

Only consider that after identifying an export constraint. If the identity or boundary is already wrong in the processed preview, a bigger file is not evidence that the underlying issue will improve.

What if the face alternates between sharp and soft?
